I have added the FinderFox widget to this blog. It makes a popup bubble that shows up when you highlight a term. This bubble allows you to search for the term on Google, OneRiot, and Screeze, tweet about the quote you selected on Twitter, and search for the selected quote on Wikipedia(this is the only option on IE6 and 7)

Today I finally tried to retrieve files from my Armagetron Advanced server computer that suffered from hard drive corruption. Sadly, many Armagetron server files were lost. I backed up as much as I could to a flash drive before I wiped the hard drive. Some files that I noticed were missing are:

I have updated the login system for this blog to allow logins from many sources, such as OpenID, Google, Yahoo, AOL, and Twitter. You can now authenticate yourself with one of these accounts in order to comment instead of manually entering your email and name.

Hope you like it!

Austin and I have recently launched the Screeze Blog, where you can find out what’s going on with Screeze directly from the Screeze Team and comment on what we’re doing.

Battlefield 1943

I have recently bought Battlefield 1943 off of the PlayStation Store and I think the game is great! It’s a nice, small, multiplayer-only, downloadable title that’s easy to just pick up and go. There is a tutorial level, but you can probably get the hang of the game by just playing it. The main way of getting into a game is using quick match, which automatically finds an open game and puts you in it, but you can also start a private match, or go to a match a friend is in.

The game is played in a conquest mode where you try to capture as many bases on the map as possible. Each team has a healthbar at the top of the screen. Each time someone respawns the healthbar decreases, when it reaches zero the other team wins. The more bases you have captured, the more points that come off of your enemy’s healthbar when one of them respawns.

There are 3 normal maps that are played in conquest mode, Wake Island, Guadalcanal, and Iwo Jima. There is also special fourth map, Coral Sea, that gets unlocked when the total number of kills for everyone on your console reaches 43 million(this is already unlocked on Xbox 360). Coral Sea is played in a special gametype that is only dogfighting instead of conquest mode.

The game also allows the map to be destroyed in various ways by the user, such as driving jeeps through wooded areas and taking down the trees, driving tanks through buildings, dropping bombs to destroy buildings and dent the landscape, and sending rockets through fences and walls or blowing them to parts with grenades. This can alter gameplay dramatically by allowing you to have lots of cover to use in the beginning of a match but being an open target in a shooting frenzy by the end of the match.

The PS3 version of the game seems to have voice chat problems but it is supposedly being looked into.

Overall I think it is a very good game at only $15.

It’s been a while since my last post here, yah sorry about that, but at least I’m getting to it now =P.

Ok so there’s a few things. First of all due to some server problems(my guess, data corruption) my Armagetron servers are currently down. I could probably get them back up but honestly I don’t really want to make the effort to do so at this point in time. They might be brought back up eventually, who knows?

Second, if you haven’t noticed I’ve added Facebook Connect to Screeze. It allows new visitors to log in with a Facebook account without registering as well as letting current users sync their accounts. Members from Facebook or who synced their accounts are allowed to invite friends from Facebook and post on their wall when they make a topic or change their “What I’m Doing” status. Try it out if you get a chance.

Third, I’m currently working on a little search engine with the Yahoo BOSS APIs. Check it out at: http://search.osvaldojr.com

Ok, so today I set up a new theme for my blog. I hope you all like it. It’s a nice, fresh look and I added a slightly redone logo to it, as well as a feature to search Screeze from it. Snap Shots are removed for now because I’m too lazy to put them back up :P but I might put them back up eventually. I particularly like the new theme because it actually works right in Windows Live Writer :D . Feel free to leave comments on your thoughts about the new look.

This short post is just about a little pet peeve of mine. How long it takes to recieve a reply to an instant message from some people.

Instant messaging is supposed to be like having a face to face conversation except in text no?

Well if someone came up to you in person and asked you a question would you wait 2-5 minutes to respond?(Watch a clock to see how long this actually is)

That wait is precisely what some do on instant messaging services(albeit extended at times. I’ve been on extended waits ranging from 15 minutes to over an hour). Now I understand that some people are busy and such and I respect that, but there is an away button isn’t there?? It has a purpose you know. It’s there to tell people you are away from your keyboard or cannot respond for any other reason.

Others have actually noted in the past that I reply to IMs too quickly. So I’m confuzed. Is it bad that I give whoever is IMing me my full attention?? Apparently instant messaging is not supposed to be instant.

Feel free to comment about this and/or give examples of this happening to you and/or your standpoint on the matter on the comments page here or on the syndicated topic on Screeze.com

Screeze Tron Server & Twitter

Today I finally put up the Armagetron Advanced server for Screeze I was planning on doing since Screeze started but never found the time to. You can find it on the server list as: Screeze The Fruit. It’s a fast paced server with a cool map, and growing death zone in the center that makes for a great, dizziness inducing, party server.

Now on to Twitter.

I have had a twitter account for a while now(about 2 months i think) but I haven’t used it. With a little bit of coaxing I was convinced to at least give it a try. You can find me at http://twitter.com/afroshock . I’ll post there things too small to put here and some tech updates for Screeze, while normal Screeze updates will be on the Screeze account http://twitter.com/screeze (not exactly ready atm).
